Well Damn. USB Edition

Here's an important safety tip.

Earlier today I was cleaning out a storage cabinet in my office and decided to figure out if I wanted to keep the USB BluRay player + DVD R/W that someone gave me pre-broken.

So I got it on my desk, found my adjustable "belker" universal AC adapter and found the barrel jack that fit the DVD. I grabbed the little tool and turned the thing to point at 5V. Or so.

Plug it in, fire it up, smoke. Cooool. I pulled the drive, pulled the power supply, tested everything again, yeah just more magic smoke smell. I tested the lead coming off the power supply and got 12-and-change volts. I didn't see the teensy arrow pointing at something past 12V until it was way too late.

Swell.

Half hour later and I noticed my keyboard wasn't working. And neither was anything else. Yeah neat it fried my 10 port Sabrent USB hub. Awesome. There's $40.

NOW I found it also got my Logitech C922 webcam.

So I'm out $115 through my own bone-headedness. Watch out for those arrows kids! Electricity is our friend.
